Kennedy & Michael
An all-white celebration on the Riviera Nayarit coast — Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit, Mexico
Kennedy Knuckles and Michael Hale chose Mexico — and then chose restraint.
The day's design direction, by @madelinejanedesign, was a modern Mexican coastal elegance: minimalist luxury layered with artisanal Mexican texture. You could read it in the paper before a single stem opened — talavera-tile patterns, a hand-drawn banana-leaf liner, Frida Kahlo stamps, all in soft sand and gold — a quiet nod to heritage, executed in a thoroughly modern hand. When it came to the flowers, the brief was singular: white upon white, grounded in green. The horizon would supply the color. Our work was simply to hold it. Lush, but deliberate.
Getting Ready
Kennedy carried a soft, all-white bouquet — loose at the edges, gathered rather than arranged. The boutonnières echoed it in miniature: a single rose, a few small white blooms, a leaf of green, tied in raw gauze.
The Ceremony
Three curved white monoliths opened straight onto the Pacific. Rather than build upward, we kept the flowers low — a ring of white and green encircling the platform, with meadows gathered along the aisle, so the architecture and the sea could do the rest.
When Kennedy and Michael met in the center portal, the flowers stepped back and the water stepped in. Negative space, doing as much work as anything in bloom.
The Party
The bridal party wore deep burgundy, carrying smaller white echoes of Kennedy's bouquet — the one place the palette allowed color, and only ever by contrast.
Cocktail Hour
Drinks were poured at a wood bar set right on the sand, the bay open in every direction.
The Reception
As the light fell, dinner unfolded on the lawn beneath the palms and a web of string lights. We worked the tables in two registers at once — abundant ceramic compote arrangements anchoring the length, with delicate bud-vase collections clustered between, each its own small conversation inside the larger one. Low clusters of white and green, threaded with candlelight in clear glass. Woven chargers and pieces of natural stone pressed into the styling — a quiet nod to the coast itself.
By full dark the whole garden glowed. A wall of mirrored spheres caught the last light over the water, and later a mariachi played the couple into the night.
It stayed quiet. It stayed white. And it never once stopped feeling abundant. Congratulations, Kennedy and Michael — and thank you for trusting us with the restraint.
